Friday 13th May 2022

This week the children have loved learning about the story, ‘Supertato’. The children are beginning to retell parts of the text and have enjoyed using the characters in the small world area to tell different versions of the story. The story inspired the children to write as if they were the characters. The children chose a character and then thought about what they might say and then wrote it down in a speech bubble. On Monday, the children had the opportunity to create their very own supertato using a range of vegetables and materials from the creative area.

In our Maths Sessions this week we have been using games to help us with our addition skills. The children are working on calculating the total of two numbers. The children have been practising counting on to work out the total. When playing net target the children had to try and throw the beanbag into a basket. When two beanbags were in the baskets they had to work out their score which they did by counting on from the largest number. Then by Friday as the children became more confident with the skill then the children played a dice game. They rolled two dice and collected the corresponding pieces of numicon and then worked out the total. The child who had the highest total won a point.

In PE this term the children have been working on their throwing, rolling and catching skills. This week the children developed their reaction and response skills when their friend dropped a ball they had to try and catch it before it bounced away.

In our topic work this week we started to look at healthy and unhealthy living. The children had to sort healthy and unhealthy food and we discussed why foods were good for us or why they were not. We also looked at how we grow from a baby through to been elderly. The children reflected on what they can do now that they couldn’t do as a baby.

In our continuous provision this week there were lots of opportunities for the children to get creative. The children made superhero capes and lots of evil peas. Take a look at their fantastic work.
