Friday 14 July

Hello everyone.

Well, what a day! We have been watching the playground become gradually more waterlogged as the day went by. It was a shame that sports day couldn’t go ahead but fingers crossed for Tuesday. We practised our races yesterday in PE. Both year groups enjoyed the sack race.

Year 2s have been making their moving model cars this week. First, they made their boxes ‘3D’. They then had to draw in the position of windows and doors and cut these out where needed before attaching the axles and wheels. The children painted their models and have started to add details such as headlights, windscreen wipers and number plates. They will finish off their models next week and evaluate them against their original designs. In computing today, Year 2 children used the Scratch Junior programme and their coding knowledge to make ‘musical instruments’ using character buttons to make sounds. In maths, the children have been looking at sequences and patterns and in life skills, thinking about meditation techniques while making pin wheels. The children have continued to practise Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on their ocarinas ready for the graduation ceremony.

In maths, Year 1 pupils have been continuing their unit on place value, looking at tens and ones, one more and one less and how to use their knowledge to solve problems. They have been finishing their topic on the Great Fire of London by thinking how towns and cities were built differently after the Great Fire before moving on to create art work involving mixing colours to create a fire background and then drawing a silhouette of buildings to glue in front. Next week, we will be creating sliders to finish off our art before moving on to a short science topic on ‘Summer’. In life skills, the children have been looking at the difference between secrets and surprises and thinking how different scenarios might apply.

I hope that we will be able to sports day on Tuesday and to see you then.

Mrs Harper will be teaching all week.
