Friday 14th March
Woosh, this week has gone fast - just like the witch's broomstick in our drawing club story 'Room on a Broom'! We had great fun learning lots of lovely new words (clambered, magnificent, woosh, fearsome, clutch, stormy, disheveled, shriek) and enjoyed drawing the dragon, the swamp, our own magnificent broomsticks and a potion to make the dragon disappear. It is lovely to hear the children talking about their ideas and making suggestions to help others improve.
In maths, we have been measuring. We started by comparing objects when they are next to each other and identifying which was taller/shorter and longer/shorter. Then we used non-standard units (such as cubes, paper clips etc) to measure items from around the classroom. Finally, we moved on to looking at how we can measure objects using standard units such as centimeters and meters.
We have completed our topic work on Georgia O'Keeffe and have drawn and painted our own GOK inspired flowers. We used what we had learnt about mixing primary colours, different brush strokes and powder paints to carefully make the colours we wanted and we took our time when painting our final pieces to ensure that we had included lots of detail. We were really pleased with our paintings and we are looking forward to putting them up on display in the classroom. (The photos attached don't really do them justice.) We have also been exploring colouring mixing through our play - using milk, food colouring, oil and washing up liquid.
In PE we have been playing tag type games and have also been practising skills used in croquet. We used the mallets to hit the balls through cones and hurdles. It was quite tricky but we had a great time!
