Super sculptures

This week Butterfly Class have completed their learning about Augusta Savage and created some super sculptures of themselves inspired by her work.  They applied lots of different techniques to their busts such as rolling, pinching, kneading and shaping to create each part of their sculpture until it was complete.  First they needed to manipulate the clay to make the shoulders. Next they rolled some clay to make the neck and attached it carefully by smoothing the joint to ensure it stayed together.  Finally they used a variety of techniques to create their head before carefully attaching it to the next.  The finished busts look amazing.  Well done Butterfly Class.

Butterfly Busts

Over the past few weeks we have been reading the wonderful and charming story called Six Dinner Sid.  It is about a very clever but manipulative cat who manages to persuade everyone in one street to feed him.  His plan is going gloriously well until one day he is found out.  Here is a link below if you would like to read the story together at home.
