Friday 18th March

Dragonflies have loved learning all about the very hungry caterpillar this week. We started by listening to the story and have practiced retelling it using story stones and props. Some children attempted to write a shopping list for what the hungry caterpillar might want to eat and then at the end of the week we had fun making our very own caterpillar fruit skewers.

On Tuesday the children performed brilliantly in their class assembly. They recited the story of the Little Red Hen for the whole school and then sang a collection of their favourite songs which the rest of the school got to join in with.

In our Maths sessions this week, we have looked at comparing numbers to 10. The children compared the amount of fruit the caterpillar ate on different days of the week. In our group sessions the children made caterpillars of different lengths using the unifix cubes and then compared whether they were longer or shorter than their friends. We discussed how the longer caterpillars had more cubes and the shorter ones had fewer cubes.

We had a visitor this week from the Fire Service to talk about Fire safety. The children listened carefully to the role of a firefighter and listened to a story which discussed how we can stay safe at home. The children had the opportunity to take part in drama activities to practice putting out fires and rescuing cats from a tall tree.

On Friday, it was Red Nose day and we dressed in red for the day. We found out about the importance of Comic relief and where the money raised would go.

Dragonflies have enjoyed the brighter weather we had towards the end of the week and have enjoyed taking part in activities outside such as den building and bug hunting. We look forward to learning about the story, ‘Dear Zoo’ next week.
