The battle of Ethandun

This week Beetle class have enjoyed being Historians once again; using our detection skills to find out about the past.  This time we have gone a LONG way back in history to the Anglo Saxon times to find out about King Alfred and how he fought and won the battle of Ethandun.  We were really fortunate to have a visit by 'King Alfred' where we learnt about how life was very different then to now, and we helped him with his battle using shields and spears to defeat the Danes.

We also had 2 other workshops that helped us to understand how life was very different in Anglo Saxon times; we found out about the clothes people wore and the process of collecting the wool and spinning it into yarn;  the type of house people lived in and  how buildings were made using Wattle and Daub - using a weaving technique and then covering it in mud or cow dung!
