Friday 1st April - Another Fabulous week

Millipedes have had another fabulous week this week we have continued our learning about the book 'Dear Zoo' and we have also looked at 'Night Monkey, Day Monkey'. As part of our learning this week the children have looked at what a nocturnal animal is. They have sorted animals into nocturnal and not. Some of the children chose to do some writing about nocturnal animals too. The children in Millipedes have been really engaged in writing, Miss Hues put some new pens, pencils and notepads into the writing area and now the children can't stop writing! This week they've written shopping lists, thank you letters and about nocturnal animals, there is no stopping them now!

The children have followed the progress of the gladioli bulbs that we planted in a maths lesson back in January. They are very excited to care for them and go and see them each day to see if they have grown. They take turns in watering them and look forward to them flowering in the summer.

Whilst learning about the zoo, the children got the loose parts and construction out and made Longleat Safari Park. They found pieces to make the road for the safari and drove their cars down looking at the animals. They put animals into specific pens based on their needs/temperament. They talked about which animals were fierce and how they could not be put in a pen with other animals. They also carried their learning on outside where they drew maps of Longleat Safari Park, drawing the animals in their pens and then using their phonic knowledge to be able to label the animals.  The children linked their learning to their own experiences of visiting Longleat Safari Park and were describing many exciting stories of their visits.

Millipedes got creative this week making their own animals using different medias at the art table. They also looked at number bonds to ten and started to look at adding two numbers together to find a total. They enjoyed using numicon to help them find their answer. Finally, they enjoyed getting the musical instruments out in music and looking at the different sounds they could make, playing fast and slow, loud and quiet.

What another wonderful week!
