Westbury Infant School and Resource Base

Friday 1st July 2022

This week we continued the story of ‘Commotion in the Ocean’. We watched some factual videos and read some non-fiction books to help us learn about different sea creatures. We did learn some fascinating facts that the children will use to create a fact file.

In our provision, the children have enjoyed setting up an ice cream shop. Mrs Smith set up a sensory ice cream activity in the mud kitchen. This was a huge hit with the children as they made ice cream from shaving foam and added sprinkles and a flake. In addition to this activity the children took part in an experiment to find different sea creatures in the water and also had lots of fun creating potions with coloured water, herbs and flowers.

In our maths sessions this week the children have been taking part in a range of challenges to consolidate their understanding of positional language. We started the week by setting up a scene and viewing it from different points as the children moved around the carpet. At the end of the week the children worked as a group to create an obstacle course and added instructions involving positional language for their friends to follow. On Friday, we had lots of fun drawing pictures by following instructions.

Caterpillar Update – The children have been observing the changes of a caterpillar to butterfly. The caterpillars quickly grew over the space of a week and have made their chrysalis. We are waiting for them to emerge as butterflies. The children check on their progress every day.

Wow what a sea of colour on Friday! It was amazing to see the range of colourful outfits that the children wore to compete in the Colour run. The children made streamers and warmed up by dancing along to some music. It was impressive to see the children run at least 10 times around the trim trail and complete their challenge. Well done Dragonflies you were super speedy!
