Friday 21st March
What a difference a bit of sunshine makes! This week we have been able to take our learning outside as we looked for plants that grow around our school. We talked about the different features of trees and plants and noted the similarities and differences between them. We also looked at the difference between garden plants (those that have been planted by someone) and wild plants (those which grow on their own) and discussed what makes a plant a weed. Next week we will be looking at the plants that grow in our local area when we go on our trip to Warminster Park.
In drawing club this week, we have been learning the story 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and we have been thinking about how we could make the giant happy by giving him things rather than taking things from the castle. We have also made puppets to help us retell the story. Our vocabulary for the week has been - roared, gigantic, penniless, furious, descended, booming, stomped and terrifying. The children are starting to use these words in different contexts too which is really lovely to see.
In maths, we have continued our work on measuring. We have ordered objects from tallest to smallest and smallest to tallest, have measured object using rulers and meter sticks and have used measures to help us solve simple problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
In our computing session this week, we have been using the forwards and backwards commands to move the Bee bot around a floor mat. We had to predict where the Bee bot would end up when following a given program and then test whether our predictions were correct. We were all pretty good at predicting which square the Bee bot would end up on.
Next week:
Tuesday 25th March - trip to Warminster Park
Friday 28th March - Non-uniform day
