This week the children had a very special delivery from the zoo. The children had to predict what would be in each package and then check if they had guessed the correct animal. The children enjoyed retelling the story of Dear Zoo and using the props in their play. A challenge to create an animal was set and the children embraced this by using a variety of materials such as the k-nex, wooden blocks and the tip tap shapes.
Dragonflies Dear Zoo
In maths, this week we have been learning about 3D shapes and pattern. We went on a shape hunt to identify shapes in our environment. We have matched shapes from around the home to the 3D shapes we have in school and finally we attempted to make the 3D shapes using marshmallows and cocktail sticks. We did lots of work on movement patterns which the children loved especially as each person got to be the pattern conductor at the front of the class.

We have been preparing for our assembly on Monday by learning songs and poems. In addition to this the children have made cards and biscuits to give as a special treat on Mothering Sunday.
On Friday, the children decided that we should create a stage in the outside area. We had an amazing time preparing for a show. The children needed to create posters, tickets and apply to perform. Then in the afternoon they performed their acts to one another. It was a great day made even better by the lovely weather.

Next week we will continue the theme of Dear Zoo but will also read the text Day Monkey, Night Monkey to learn about nocturnal animals.
