Wallabies Term 3 week 3

5,4,3,2,1 BLAST OFF!!!

Our space theme continued this week where children have enjoyed listening to the story ‘On the moon’ during our English lessons. They have sequenced story pictures, written postcards and had a go at drawing and labelling what they saw on their journey to the moon. Children are working really hard to ‘fred talk’ words and ‘pinch the sounds’ to support with spelling. They have moulded rockets using play-doh and built space buggy’s with lego and mobile.

In maths, children have been developing their understanding of composition, or the numbers within numbers. A key focus has been exploring ways to represent 5, in particular using a die frame and understanding the pairs of numbers that make 5. They went on to explore 6 and 7 and seeing these as visual representations on a double die frame and how they are composed of ‘5 and a bit’. The week ended by looking at circles and triangles in particular where these are in our environment. The children enjoyed working in pairs and going on a shape hunt.

Children enjoyed working on making shapes in PE and had fun using the climbing apparatus to demonstrate their shapes on. In topic, we looked at features of London and contrasted these to Westbury. During expressive arts and design, children created their own aliens with moving parts using a split pins and adding other moving features using a lollipop stick as a lever. These have made a perfect addition to their other alien themed creations over the last few weeks.

Well done on another busy, productive week Wallabies! Have a wonderful weekend.
