Planes...visits and a rocket launch!

This week the children enjoyed listening to the story, 'Emma Jane's Aeroplane' this inspired the children to create landmarks from around the world. The children have also embraced making paper airplanes and seeing how far they can fly. It was great to see the adults who attended the parent event had lots of fun creating planes and helicopters.

In our maths sessions we have been looking at addition and subtraction using first, then and now. The children have been working out addition and subtraction problems using their tens frames. We listened to the story, 'Kipper's Toybox' and then used our own teddies in a box to create subtraction problems for example, First there were ten bears in the box then three escaped now there are seven bears left in the box. The children are becoming experts at creating number stories using the words, 'First, Then and Now'.

We filled our 'Gem pot' this week and as a surprise for the children we borrowed a rocket launching toy. The children had an extra playtime in which they launched rockets. They had to stamp has hard as they could to launch the rocket and then we compared the distance travelled by the rockets. It was great to count down to the rocket launch and see how far they went.

On Friday, we ended the week with a walk around Westbury. We went on a big loop via the Fire Station, church, library, the Old Westbury Infants school and the swimming pool. On the way back we ended up in the park with a special treat as it was a very warm afternoon. It was a fantastic way to end the term although I think we had a fair few tired children and adults at the end of the day. Thank you to the volunteers that helped to make our walk happen - We really appreciate the help and support you provided.

I can't believe it is half term already...I hope everyone has a lovely break and I look forward to welcoming you back for the final term of Reception.
