Friday 28th April

This week the children have really enjoyed their maths lessons and have become excellent problem solvers. The focus of our lessons for the week was linked to sharing and grouping. The children have enjoyed setting up Teddy Bear Picnics and sharing food equally amongst the bears. On Wednesday, the children loved the story, ‘The doorbell rang’. In this story two children are about to share 12 cookies when the doorbell rings and more children arrive. This happens throughout the story and the children could work out how many cookies each person would get. At the end of the week, we looked at grouping and seeing if an amount could be grouped equally or not.

Topic this week was centred around Journey’s to school. The children tried very hard to map their journey to school and think about the landmarks they would see on their way. It was interesting to hear the children talk about their journeys to school and compare them with others. In the creative area, the children were set the challenge to create a house using the materials around them. There were some very bright houses created. In the construction area the children have been thinking about what is available in Westbury and they have tried their best to represent different shops and buildings.

This week the children were set a writing task to write about their knowledge of maps. I was very impressed with the children using their phonic knowledge to spell words. It is great to see the children having much more confidence to have a go at writing. If you would like to support your child’s phonic knowledge then why not check out our blog:
