Dragonflies have had such a delightful week with lots of amazing experiences. We began the week with a visit from a local artist, ‘Helen Chester’. She showed the children her artwork and explained how she created her pictures. The children are currently creating their own art work linked to the Westbury White Horse and we will share the finished pictures when they are ready.

On Wednesday, we went on a walk around our local area and it was lovely to hear the children chat about the places that they recognised on their way around. The children all agreed playing in the park was the best part of the walk.

In our maths this week, we have compared the weights of different objects and the children were keen to use the balance scales. We investigated which objects were heavy and which were light. The children then used the words, ‘heavier’ and ‘lighter’ to describe the two items. Towards the end of the week the children have explored capacity. The children have practised pouring different amounts of liquid/food into different containers and have talked about which holds the most or the least amount.

This week the story was ‘Oi get off our train’. The children have enjoyed painting pictures of the animals that might get on their train. The children also decided where they might go on a train ride and created a postcard. We have had the train track out for the children to retell the story or to create their own version with different animals and events.

Next week we are looking forward to the story, ‘Mr Gumpy’s Outing’.
