We’re going on a bug hunt….
I can’t believe we are in week 5 already! The weeks are whizzing by and the children’s knowledge is continuing to grow and they are becoming experts on animals.
In drawing club this week, the children have enjoyed the story Lost and Found. We taught the following words for them to act out communicate, shelter, amphibious, energy, similar, curved, discover, lonely. On day one the children thought about what animal could appear at the door and it could be any animal they wanted. Day 2, saw the children returning the animal back to their habitat and on day three, the children had to think about what items people lose and create a treasure chest full of lost things. The children have enjoyed the story and innovating it as part of their drawing club sessions.
Maths this week focused on 3D shapes and patterns. The children have enjoyed exploring 3D shapes and building with them. We looked at the faces on each shape and we played a game where one person imprinted a face in the playdough and the other person guessed which 3D shape made the imprint. In addition to this, children built ramps and tested whether the shape would roll or not. The children enjoyed seeing how far the shapes would roll and discovered the sphere would roll the furthest distance. At the end of the week we read the story ‘Pattern Fish’ and the children enjoyed spotting all the different patterns. Then they had a go at making some patterns. Can you see what they are in the pictures below?
In our topic sessions this week the children created a lovely card for Mother’s day. The children also learnt a very special song – see the video below:

All week the children have enjoyed a range of Minibeast stories and on Friday we went on a bug hunt. The children loved upturning wooden stumps to find slugs, snails, spiders and worms. In class our caterpillars are getting bigger day by day and we hope over the weekend they will spin their cocoon. We finished our models of animals using a tube and I think they looked amazing! We will continue our junk modelling next week so please continue to send any boxes/cartons/tubes you may have at home.
Next week Mrs Hughes will be in class on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Don’t forget Reception will be at the church on Tuesday and there is a parent event on Thursday.
I hope that the lovely weather continues over the weekend and you all have a fabulous time.
