Westbury Infant School and Resource Base

Friday 2nd December 2022

This week we have had fun week in Dragonflies class with the arrival of a Christmas Tree and a Kindness elf. The children have named the elf Tinsel Twinkle. On Friday the children decided to make cards to thank people who help us around the school. We look forward to finding more letters from our class elf which encourage us to do kind things. Lots of the children have enjoyed talking about the elves that they have at home. Please upload some photographs on Tapestry so we can share them as a class.

This week we looked at the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ the children enjoyed comparing different versions of the story. At the end of the week the children were really confident to retell the story so they went to perform it in the sensory garden.

Dragonflies LRRH

I had the pleasure of teaching PE this week usually it is Mrs Bayley so I was very impressed to see the children’s skills in dance. Throughout the term the children have worked on their dancing skills by creating different shapes with their bodies. This week we looked at circles and how we could create circles. The children worked in pairs to create a routine that included circles and then performed it to their peers. We listened to some great music and at the end there was time to add in a ‘circles’ dance with scarves which the children really enjoyed.

Dragonflies PE 2nd Dec

In our topic sessions this week we have continued to look at woodland animals. The children have created woodland animals using a range of media ready to put up on display. We also investigated the types of homes woodland animals would live in and had a go at recreating homes for them in our Sensory garden.

Don’t forget to check out the RWI blog to support children’s reading and writing development. It has lots of useful videos to support your child with their blending to read skills.

In our Maths Sessions this week we have looked at patterns. The children were very good at making AB patterns with different materials. I think creating Christmas wrapping paper was the most popular activity in the creative area this week.
