Hello everyone.

This week has been a strange one with the children disappearing off to their new classes for two days. It has been lovely to see the slight trepidation and nervousness transform to a happier confidence. On Thursday afternoon, the Year 1 children came bouncing in from lunch fully expecting to head off once again. They were consoled with a practice session for Sports Day, which is coming up in a couple of weeks (14th July).

The photos this week are based purely around computing. The Year 1s showed real resilience in using the Sketchpad app to prepare pictograms based on zoo animals. It proved tricky to get it right, but you can see that they persevered. Year 2 children were exploring the Scratch Junior programme, which offers an introduction to coding. They could change characters and backgrounds and create simple animations where their characters moved.

In Maths, the Year 1s have been enjoying our work on time. We have moved this week to comparing the length of hours, minutes and seconds before telling the time to o’clock and half past the hour. Year 2s have continued their learning on capacity. They have measured practically and used litres and millilitres in context.

We have continued our topic learning with the Year 1s investigating why the Great Fire of London spread so quickly in 1666. We thought about the facts that many of the houses were made of wood, the streets were narrow and that there was a strong wind as well as no effective fire fighting equipment.

Year 2 pupils have started a new topic on how to build moving model cars. We have only had one lesson but went out to the car park to investigate how cars are made of different parts. The children could identify these parts successfully when labelling a diagram.

Mrs Harper will be teaching every day next week.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Harper, Miss McVeigh and Mrs Lee
