Westbury Infant School and Resource Base

Friday 31st March 2023

This week we have continued our exploration of minibeasts and the rain provided the perfect weather for learning about worms. The children have enjoyed exploring for worms and comparing the lengths of the worms they have found. The children have really enjoyed our topic on animals this term. On Thursday we have a visit from some chicks that were less than a week old. The children loved holding the chicks and were really excited to see them.

Dragonflies Chicks

Maths this week, supported the children’s number bonds to ten. The children really enjoyed watching an episode of number blocks to help them recall number bonds to ten. This is the episode if you wish to watch it at home:

We also read the story, ‘One is a snail and ten is a crab’. This supported us to add two numbers together. The children chose two animals and then calculated the total number of legs altogether. After some practical exploration of this, the children were challenged to draw two animals with the correct number of legs for their friends to add together.

In our creative area this week, the children finished off their minibeast creations and then made some fabulous Easter Cards inspired by the chicks visit. They also had the opportunity to design an egg that would be hidden as part of their Easter Egg Hunt. On Friday, the children were excited to meet the Easter Bunny whilst they were hunting for their eggs. It was a fun way to end the term.
