Shiver Me Timbers! Night Pirates Are on the Move!
This week, the children had a fantastic time diving into the exciting tale of The Night Pirates. They were captivated by the brave young pirates, the moonlit mission, and the clever twists in the story. The adventure sparked plenty of imagination, laughter, and lively discussion!
As part of our Drawing Club sessions, the children drew their favourite characters, designed new pirate ships, and imagined where the pirates might sail next. They also explored new vocabulary words including stealthy, shadows, brave, adventure, bandits, and disguise—which they enthusiastically used in their storytelling.
Continuing the pirate theme, the children brought their ideas to life in the construction area by creating their very own pirate ships. It was wonderful to see their creativity and teamwork in action.
In Maths this week, we focused on positional language and mapping skills. Using small world toys, the children created their own maps and described the positions of different landmarks. We also discussed their journeys to school, and they did a fantastic job explaining what they see along the way. They even created their own journey maps, which led to some great conversations and comparisons.
To finish the week, we had fun creating a treasure map together, and then the children enjoyed making their own. Their sense of direction and imagination really shone through!
During our topic sessions, we learned all about boats and what life might be like aboard a ship at sea. We explored the different parts of a boat, then conducted a floating and sinking investigation. The children made predictions and waited eagerly to see the results! We also chatted about pirates—what they might do while at sea and what kinds of jobs they’d have on board.
In provision, the pirate theme has remained a big hit—alongside favourites like Super Mario and Minecraft. The children have been busy building detailed worlds and characters, collaborating brilliantly and telling imaginative stories with their creations.
They’ve also enjoyed using the One-Minute Maths app to practise their number knowledge, showing great focus and progress.
Time is flying by—it’s hard to believe we only have a few weeks left of the term! Wishing you all a lovely and restful weekend.
