What a busy first week back! 

The children have been working really hard in Maths. Year 1 have been using bead strings, numberlines and part whole models to add and subtract. Year 2 have been adding and subtracting using Year 2 tens frames. Ask the children to tell you all about them!

Both Year 1 and Year 2 have started new blocks of learning on our Topic afternoons.

Year 1 has started learning about Isambard Kingdom Brunel in History. They have been very excited to find out all about his life and the wonderful engineering achievements he is remembered for. Of course our trip to the SS Great Britain next week will give the children a chance to see one of them in real life. We can't wait to take them! If you are available to come along please let Mrs Macfarlane or Miss McVeigh now as we could do with a couple more helpers.

Year 2 have begun an art topic. We are learning all about Thomas Gainsborough and his portraits and self portraits. The children had a go at drawing their own last week. We are looking forward to heading to the Holbourne Gallery in Bath next week to see some wonderful portraits in real life!

In our story times this week we have been enjoying The Slightly Annoying Elephant by David Walliams. The children have enjoyed joining in with key phrases, especially "Silly Boy!" Check out the link to watch it together at home!
