Friday 7th October

Dragonflies have had an amazing week of learning and we went on our very first school trip. The week started with the children learning about their five senses. We played games such as what’s that sound, Kim’s game, what’s that smell, how does it taste and what can you feel? The children had great fun ending the week with a visit to our sensory garden the children thought about what they could hear, see, smell and feel. Some of the children were fortunate enough to pick some pears from the pear tree so could also investigate their sense of taste.

Dragonflies Five Senses

Tuesday was a great day as the children got to visit the school library and bring a book home to share with their grown ups. They can keep it at home for a week and then please can they return it the following Tuesday.

On Wednesday we had a fantastic first trip to the Victoria Art Gallery in Bath along with a visit to Sydney Gardens to explore the park. It was a very wet day but that didn’t stop Dragonflies from having an amazing time. The children enjoyed exploring the different apparatus at the park showing some fantastic team work skills to push the swings or add the water to the giant sand pit. In the Art Gallery, the children listened attentively about the different portraits in the gallery and had the opportunity to dress up like a couple of the pictures. They learnt how to create a self portrait and had a lot of fun pretending to be artist as they created their own picture.

Throughout the week the children have continued to learn their letter sounds. It would be amazing if you could support the children to learn these by visiting the links in the RWI blog:

In our maths this week the children loved meeting Number Three Numberblock. We played some of the games from the episode such as tic tac toe and went on a hunt for the number three. We investigated what numbers hide in the number three and also looked at the different ways that three could be represented on a five frame. The children enjoyed playing ‘cups’ where an object was hidden in one of the cups and they had to say if it was in the first, second or third cup.
