Dragonflies have had a very busy week learning all about the story, ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. The children enjoyed listening to the story and learning all about the role of a Lighthouse Keeper. In the story some seagulls pinch Mr Grinling’s lunch every day so the children set about making a picnic basket full of food for him. As part of a creative challenge the children had the opportunity to make a lighthouse and I think you’ll agree they turned out to be amazing!

This week saw the release of our much-loved Butterflies. It was a nice sunny afternoon when we released them into the sensory garden. The children have enjoyed observing the changes that happened to the butterflies.

In our Maths learning this week, the children have been solving problems based on the story, ‘One is a snail and 10 is a crab.’ The children have used animal legs to help them with their addition problems. Dragonflies were set the challenge of finding out what animals could be used to make 10 legs. Towards the end of the week we introduced the children to money and we set up an ice cream shop with some very cheap ice creams. The children enjoyed pretending to buy different flavour ice creams and making amounts up to 10p.

Next week, we will continue to learn about the story, ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ and the children will have the opportunity to make some yummy sandwiches and write a set of instructions.
The weather for next week looks to be very hot and sunny. Please can you remember to apply sun lotion before the children come to school and send them with a hat for when they play outside. Thank you
