What a super start we’ve had to Term 6 in Honeybee Class!
Our topic this term is The Seaside, and we began the week diving into the delightful story The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch by Ronda Armitage. In the story, the lighthouse keeper’s wife sends his lunch along a wire in a basket each day—until some pesky seagulls keep stealing it! The children loved discovering the creative ways Mr. and Mrs. Grinling tried to stop the seagulls, and especially enjoyed designing their own picnics and disgusting sandwiches to trick the birds. We were so impressed with how well they remembered and retold the story, sequencing pictures and predicting what would happen next. We certainly have some fantastic storytellers in Honeybee Class!
In Maths, we’ve been exploring the concept of measure, with a focus on weight and capacity. Using weighing scales and loose parts, the children investigated the terms heavier, lighter, and equal. Later in the week, we introduced the word capacity, learning it describes the maximum amount a container can hold. The children enjoyed experimenting with cups and water to compare different containers, discovering that appearances can be deceiving—a taller container doesn’t always hold more!
As part of our topic, we’ve also been busy learning Makaton signs for different sea creatures and getting into the seaside spirit by learning to dance like pirates! The children also created beautiful beach scenes using a wide range of materials—full of colour, creativity, and imagination.
Well done Honeybee Class, have a wonderful weekend!
