The temperature is rising!
What a hot and sticky week we have had in Zebra Class, but this has not deterred the children from working their socks off as usual!
In English, the children have been impressing us with their writing about Grandma from 'The Building Boy'. They have been using adjectives to describe her, as well as different settings within the text. Mrs Channon and I have been really pleased with the children's writing progress this year. Their letter formation, presentation, spelling, writing stamina and overall writing independence has been fantastic.
In Maths, we have been thinking about positional language (left, right, above, between, below) as well as the language associated with movement (forwards/ backwards). The children have used lots of practical resources to help them with their understanding and application of this language. Programming our class robot, 'Doc', was a real hit!
We have now finished our topic about the Great Fire of London. The children have remembered so many important facts ('sticky knowledge') about how, when and where the fire started and can talk confidently about the reasons why the fire spread so quickly. Many of the children can also discuss the changes that came about as a result of the catastrophe. They acted as town planners and drew the houses that had to be built after the fire (tiled roofs not thatched, stone brickwork, not wood, etc.)
In PE the children have continued with their tennis skills and this week practised hitting a ball with the racket for their partner to catch. I have been impressed with their hand-eye coordination!
The children have also enjoyed lots of bubble fun this week, whilst trying to stay cool! Thank you to Miss Lloyd for doing this with the children.
Next week, it is forecast to cool down a little but please do continue to ensure that you apply plenty of sun cream before school and the children have a named sun hat please. We will continue to follow the safety advice from Wiltshire Council to ensure that the children stay safe until this heatwave passes.
