Ice and Snow

Term Three; Week Five

This week in Millipedes we have continued with our new topic, Lost and Found, and have explored the South Pole and Antarctica.

We started by looking at the landscapes of Antarctica, identifying what features we could see and how they are different to where we live. We saw snow and ice, mountains and sea and lots of icebergs. The children thought it wouldn’t be very nice to live there as it is so cold, but they would like to look after the penguins, even though they are very noisy.

We also investigated the wildlife we would find in Antarctica. The children impressed me with their knowledge of penguins and together we discovered loads of penguin facts.

Later in the week we flipped to the North Pole and the Artic Circle to look at its similarities and differences with Antarctica. Here we met the polar bears!

In maths we have started exploring the number six and have introduced 10s frames to the children. Every time we explore numbers the children impress me with their mathematical language and enthusiasm, we should all be so proud of their hard work!
