Jumping straight back into learning!

This week Beetle Class have jumped straight back into their learning with new topics in both Maths and Science.

In Maths, we are learning about money and have had a very practical based week using the money resources to calculate values and look at the different ways the pounds and pence can be added together to make the same amount.  It would be great if the children had the opportunity to look at some real coins at home and show you what they have learnt.

We began our Science Topic of ‘Materials’ outside of the classroom this week when we went on a material hunt around the playground.  The children enthusiastically explored to find as many different materials as they could.  Back in class we discussed the properties of the materials and their uses.  Later in the week, we conducted an experiment to see which materials we could squash, bend, twist and stretch.  We have also been listening to the materials song below to help us remember the different types of materials. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOKr462HLc0

Linking to our History Topic ‘Florence Nightingale’ later this term, we were also very fortunate to have Mrs Mitchell join us last Friday to talk to us about her other job (when not being a Mum) as a nurse. Mrs Mitchell spoke to the children about all the different elements of her job and why she loves it so much.  The children were an amazing audience and asked some fantastic questions. A great introduction to our Topic – Thank you Mrs Mitchell.

In PE we are continuing to develop our balancing skills.  This week, using the equipment, the children combined movement and balance.  Then held a balance pose on the bench before jumping off using variety of jumps, to controlling their landing with another static balance pose. The children worked really well in their teams, giving encouragement and feedback.

In Music, the children began designing their instruments which we will be making later in the term.  It was lovely to see that some of the children had chosen to make instruments at home.  We used these for inspiration for our designs as well as listening to the musical sound each one produced.

Some of the children have changed RWI groups so reading books may have gone home on a different day this week.  Please continue to listen to you child read each day and please ensure that reading journals and reading books are in school every day – thank you.

Just a couple of small reminders, if your child wears glasses please ensure that they have them in school each day. There are still some sketch books missing, so if your child’s one is at home please return it next week. Also, can all homework books be in school next week too so I can ensure Knowledge Organisers are in everyone’s books.  Thank you.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!
