Ladybird Class 11th March

Hello everyone.

We have enjoyed the last week of our Art topic and have brought together all our learning in our final piece – see the photos. Year 1 have mixed powder paints to create secondary colours to produce an enlarged version of a close-up of a flower. We had to choose different sized brushes to create the detail of the paintings. Year 2s produced a collage using a mixture of media to create a jungle scene reminiscent of the work of Henri Rousseau.

In Maths, Year 1 children have been comparing length and height before moving on to measuring with non-standard units – paper clips and feet came in handy on Thursday. We needed to realise that we couldn’t mix different units when measuring. Next week, we will start to use rulers to measure in centimetres.

Year 2s have been finishing their unit on measurement. We solved problems involving all four operations and honed our measurement skills.

In RE, both classes have been looking at Mothering Sunday. Year 2s have been writing poems and Year 1s singing. In PE, the children looked at coordination involving ball skills.

Year 1 pupils will be making musical instruments next Friday so it would be useful if they could bring in a small box or a kitchen roll tube. Thank you.

We are looking forward to our trips next Wednesday – Year 1 to Warminster Park and Year 2 to The Wild Place Project in Bristol. On 24 March, we will be going up to Church for the Easter service. Year 2 parents are invited so any parents wishing to join us for the walk to the church will be most welcome. We will be leaving school at 1.30 and returning before the end of the school day. Please could you let me know if you are able to do this.

We seem to have a lot more photos of Year 1 this week. We will aim to redress this next week - especially with all the trip photos.
