Ladybird Class 23rd February 2023

Hello everyone. Ladybirds have enjoyed starting our new topics this term. Both Year 1 and Year 2 are working on Art for the first three weeks – looking at the work of Georgia O’Keeffe and Henri Rousseau respectively. Both artists focussed on the natural world in their paintings and this has given us the opportunity to explore outside for inspiration when practising our sketching techniques.

In Maths, Year 2 pupils have been consolidating their knowledge of multiplication and division, focussing on the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We have been thinking about how to solve problems in different ways. Next week, we will be moving on to practical measurement of length using centimetres and metres.

Year 1s have been working on developing their knowledge of numbers from 20 to 50 using practical equipment to consider how many tens and how many ones there are in different numbers.

In RE, Y1 children have been looking at the Creation Story – drawing pictures and working with a group to create freeze frames for each day. Year 2 children have been thinking about the symbols of new life as an introduction to our topic on Easter.

We are working on balances and sequences in PE – our photographs show the children challenging themselves in simple balances on one and then the other foot and working on balances on large body parts on mats.

I am looking forward to seeing you at the Parents’ Evenings on Tuesday and Wednesday. If you have not already made an appointment, I will be at the classroom door with the list on Monday and Tuesday mornings and afternoons.

It is also the Year 1 Cake Sale next Monday afternoon. All contributions of cakes will be much appreciated.
