Leaves and Maths!

Wow! What a start to the term! It is hard to believe that we are already over half way through the year.  It is amazing to think how far the children have come. We welcome Miss Wood to Giraffe class who is a student from Bath Spa and will be working with us until early June. You might sometimes see her outside in the morning or after school, this is part of her development as a teacher, please do come and say hello to her. Obviously, myself and Mrs Millard will still be your first port of call for any worries or concerns.

We continue to focus on regular reading this term, especially the Year 1 children as they will be taking the phonics check in early June. Some of the Year 2 children will be focussing on their independent reading during extra reading sessions to develop their fluency and comprehension skills.

This week in English we have been reading The Last Wolf. There are some similarities with another well-known fairy tale. You can find a link to the story here… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQ4yjGGYhcA . It is a lovely story to share.

In Maths this week we have begun looking at measuring. The Year 1 children have been using non-standard units such as cubes and the Year 2 children have been introduced to rulers. Our Mastering Number sessions have continued and we have been subitising up to 10 on our rekenreks.

For the next 3 weeks in our topic we are looking at the famous French artist Henri Rousseau. You will have had the information sent home. The children will be looking at collaging, drawing and printing to make their own piece of artwork in his style. We will share the finished results on the blog.

Next week…

  • - PE kits worn to school on Wednesday and Friday.
  • - Mrs Millard in class Thursday and Friday.
  • - Year 2 cake sale Thursday.
