Little City, Fireworks and Fire Station!!

We have had a wonderful first week back in Wallaby Class with lots of exciting learning going on.

This week, we had Little City visiting as part of our topic about people who can help us.  The children had a wonderful hour playing together with the different role play areas.  I was so proud of the way they shared all the toys and at the end of our session, they were fantastic at tidying away ready for the next class. We also walked to the Fire Station and had great fun exploring the fire engine, listening to the siren and hosing down Miss Adlam and Mr Brewer.  It was a fantastic afternoon and I was so proud of all the children.

This week, we have been learning about Bonfire Night and Guy Fawkes.  The children have enjoyed making firework pictures during Message Centre and have made Firework Toast using food colouring and oat milk.  What a treat!

In maths the week, we have learning about 1 more and 1 less than a number to 3.  We have also been learning how a number can be made by adding atleast two numbers together.

We ended the week with our first 'Faraway Friday' where we travelled to India on our class plane! We had our passports stamped and checked at passport control before boarding the plane and enjoyed our inflight refreshments (snack and milk!)  We looked on Google Earth how far we were going to be travelling and during the flight talked about what the weather might be like when we get there and what we might see. We learnt about the Diwali - the festival of light and enjoyed a day themed around this. We learnt how families prepare for the celebration and what they do during the celebration. We had some traditional clothes for the children to dress up in, they made their own Diya lamps, designed their own Mendhi patterns on hands and had a go at creating a rangoli pattern. It also linked nicely to the start of the week with a discussion on fireworks as these are enjoyed during the festival as well. The children even made their own edible sparklers by dipping breadsticks into melted chocolate and adding sprinkles before letting them set in the fridge. They enjoyed eating them at the end of the day.

Please can all children bring a coat and welly boots into school from next week.  We are still using the trim trail but it can get muddy so welly boots will be very useful for the children to put on.

Have a lovely weekend!
