Materials, materials, materials!
Term 6 already... wow!
This week has been busy, but a highlight was the beginning of our new topic in Science- 'Materials'. During our topic work we have been introduced to the ‘play project’ to help us with our learning. We have been in charge of how we carry out our activities through drawing, creating, writing and constructing. The children have been looking at different materials and if they are suitable for their purpose. We have had cardboard hammers and chairs, carpet slippers and playdough pizzas. Then, we have looked at how to make out materials stronger for the Three little Pigs. We had a very fierce wolf in the form of a hairdryer trying to blow down our houses!
In maths, we started telling the time. We looked at the days of the week and months of the year before recognising seconds, minutes and hours. We used clocks to tell and draw o'clock and half past times. The children loved showing off all of their learning by even drawing their own clocks.
In English, we have shared ‘Fire Cat’. A fictional story based on the Great Fire of London. Some of the children got into character as we hot seated ‘John’ and answered questions posed by the class. We sequenced the story and then the children re-enacted it in groups in preparation for writing a diary entry next week.
PE was all about creating different dance moves and shapes to represent a variety of weather types.
In computing, the children applied their coding and debugging skills to a new app called A.L.E.X. They used their resilience and teamwork to work their way through the levels.
Finally, it was such a lovely afternoon Friday when the grandparents made a visit to Leopard Class. Thank you to those who could attend! We hope you enjoyed the artwork and activity.
