Meerkats at Stourhead!
What an arty week we have had both at school and on our trip to beautiful Stourhead.
On Tuesday, in preparation for our trip, using natural resources found on our Trim Trail the children created a variety of land sculptures with a flash of colour. We thought about the shapes Andy Goldsworthy used and how colour can change how we see the pattern and shape.
Then there was great excitement as we headed off to Stourhead on Wednesday. The children were a true credit to the school through their wonderful behaviour and engagement with the trip. Their behaviour was even praised by the house volunteers and other visitors as we visited the grand house – well done Marvellous Meerkats!
Inspired by Andy Goldsworthy, we collected natural resources in the grounds and created more sculptures. The children worked together to create some beautiful works of art – one was even created within the trunk of a tree!
We then visited the grand house. This was a great opportunity for the children to see paintings and sculptures up close. The children were amazing as they asked questions and engaged with all that was on show. We saw portrait paintings of all the people who had lived at the house, landscapes of the grounds and even a magic painting that appeared only when a light was shone on it. We were amazed to find out that the carpet was actually a print on the floor and not a carpet at all!
After a picnic lunch, we had time in the Stable Yard to play some ‘Halloween’ themed games before heading back to school on the coach. May I just say a huge ‘Thank you’ to the parents who joined us on the trip. Without your help and support these trips couldn’t go ahead so thank you so much!
Next week we have Parent Consultations on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thank everyone for signing up for an appointment, I am so looking forward to sharing your child’s learning with you.
Our Harvest Festival service is at All Saint’s Church on Thursday at 2pm. Again, thank you to the parents who have volunteered to walk with us. For those walking, we will be leaving school at 1.30pm and be back by the end of the school day.
As the weather becomes a little chilly and hats and gloves come into school, please ensure that they are named. I do encourage the children to put their sweatshirts/cardigans in their drawer and will do the same with hats and gloves (as our cloak room can become very busy) but inevitably sometimes little items go astray so naming them helps. Thank you.
Next week, I will be in class all week with our wonderful TAs, Miss Smith and Miss Lloyd.
Wishing you all a very happy and cosy weekend.
