Meerkats spotted in Lacock!

It was wonderful to be able to visit Lacock on Tuesday to support our learning about materials and The Great Fire of London.  A huge thank you to our parent helpers, it was a hot day and we did quite a bit of walking but without your help and support these trips could not go ahead, so once again thank you! The Marvellous Meerkats certainly lived up to their name on the trip.  They were able to relate all of their in class learning to our visit and their behaviour was excellent – a true credit to our school.  Well done superstars – gems on the jar!

We have continued our theme of The Great Fire of London in English but we are now exploring the facts and the impact the fire had on the people of London.  We had an unexpected visit from Jane (Samuel Pepys’ servant) on Thursday and she told us all about how the fire spread and how the people tried to contain it. The children were very good at telling Jane what they already knew and at explaining how life now is very different from life in 1666!

In Maths, we learnt about minutes in an hour and hours in a day.  Time can be a tricky concept for children to learn so please continue supporting this skill at home by asking and telling your child the time and referring to how long things may take to further develop this skill.

We concluded our science topic of materials this week.  The children confidently completed ‘Prove it’ and ‘Show me what you know’ tasks in our end of topic piece. We even made up little jingles to help us on our way.  Do ask the children to share them as they absolutely love singing!

Talking of music, we are so enjoying music this term. We have been using our bodies to create beats and percussion sounds to accompany the songs we are singing.  This week we went full volume with ‘The Greatest Show’ and the classroom was alive!  We used everyday objects from around the room to create music.  It is so good to see the children let go and embrace the freedom of the music – definitely the highlight of our week.  Check out the photos to see the musicians do their thing!

A couple of reminders… Please ensure that your child has a sunhat in school every day and their reading book, we are still very fortunate to have Shirley and Rhonda in with us on Mondays and Thursdays.  Thank you.

Next week, I will be in class all week with our wonderful TA, Miss Smith.

Have a great weekend everyone – enjoy the sunshine!
