Meet the artists!

What an amazing day we had on Thursday at The Holborne Museum, Bath.  From start to finish the children engaged with the artwork and activities.  It was great to see and hear them putting all the pieces of the learning jigsaw into place.  We had the opportunity to sit on front of a real Thomas Gainsborough painting (it was much bigger than any of us expected it to be) before the children demonstrated their artistic flair making their own collage portraits.  The children also had the opportunity to explore Sydney Gardens and they were all credit to the school with their fantastic behaviour.

Earlier in the week, Beetle Class shared their learning with the whole school during our class assembly.  They shared their written work about Thomas Gainsborough, portrait and self-portrait drawings from their sketch books and explained what they had learnt so far in Topic.     We also began our preparations for our final art piece by

mixing primary colours to create our individual skin tone.  The children followed the steps and carefully added small amounts of different coloured paint to create the correct tone.  Self-portraits will be panted next week.

In maths this week we have been adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers.  The children have used resources and drawn pictorial representations to support their learning.  It is great to hear the children using their maths vocabulary when explaining what they are doing.

In RE, we have been looking at the act of kindness.  The children have shared some really thoughtful ideas and it is lovely to see them doing ‘random acts of kindness’ throughout our school day.

What a busy week it has been, enjoy your weekend!

Just a small reminder, all children need slippers in school, especially as the weather is getting colder and wet.

Mrs Jeffery will be in class; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday with Mrs Rockey taking Beetle Class on Thursday.

Well done again Beetle Class.
