Mini Beasts and Busy Beetles!

Thank you all so much for joining us for the Year 2 Mother’s Day assembly and Easter Service this week. The children, as you saw, were amazing as they recited their ‘Mum Recipe’, Easter poem and sang songs for you – the Beetles team were very proud of them all. We understand not everyone can always make these events so please do have a look at pictures.

Thank you also to the parents who walked to the church with us today – your help and support is always much appreciated.

In Science this week, we have continued with our topic of ‘Who lives here and why?’  The children have looked at various habitats; world habitats, local habitats and micro habitats. They also looked through books from our class library, spotting many habitats within them.  We became explorers on Wednesday and went on a ‘micro habitat hunt’ around the school grounds.  We found woodlice, a snail, an ant (you’ll need to look really closely at that picture) and a bee but no Beetles!  We discussed the micro habitats in the children’s own gardens at home - so be prepared for more exploring and mini beast finds!  We then looked at adaptations and the children produced some wonderful fact files all about brown bears, pandas and polar bears.

In Maths, we have continued with our fraction topic, the children have used resources to find ½, ¼ and 1/3 before moving onto finding fractions of a shape.  They have been using mathematical vocabulary to explain their answers and reasoning.  We finished the week with the children using all their new fraction knowledge to find fractions of amounts.

We shared the story of ‘Gorilla’ by Anthony Browne this week and the children really enjoyed hearing all about Hannah’s adventures with the Gorilla.  Here’s a link to the story so you too can share it at home.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTCasDPT1xI

The children are all working really hard in their RWI groups, please continue to read with your child each day and please can reading books and journals be in school every day.  Also, please do look at the RWI blog.  It has links to support your child’s reading development.   If you are not sure of your child’s group please just ask.

We are off to Matravers on Monday (27th March) for a sports event.  Can all children please come to school in their PE kit but with their SCHOOL JUMPER. Also, can they bring a water bottle.

Mrs Jeffery will be in class; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday with Mrs Rockey taking Beetle Class on Thursday.

Wishing you all a very good weekend.

Mrs Jeffery, Mrs Rockey, Miss Smith and Mrs Ball.
