Money and Materials

The term has started with a BANG! Last week all of the Year 2 children were lucky enough to have a visit from Mrs Mitchell who is a nurse. She talked to them about her job and how she looks after people. This links beautifully to our History topic later in the term about Florence Nightingale. The children asked really thoughtful questions and even told her that Mrs Russam wants to be a nurse when she grows up!

This week Firefly class have started new topics in both Maths and Science.

For Maths we have been looking at money. First, the children have investigated the different coins and their values. Then they moved on to looking at notes. Finally, they combined the two and found pounds and pence. This was a real hands on topic and the children loved using the coins and really spending time looking at them.

As part of our Science topic the children were learning outside of the classroom. We walked around the school grounds looking at the different materials and what they were being used for. then we investigated how we could change the materials by bending, twisting or squashing.

Next week Mrs Clifford will be in Firefly class on Wednesday and Mrs Ibbeken on Friday. Mrs Fitz Henry Roe will be in as usual.

Have a lovely weekend.
