New Term and New Topic for Glow Worms!

Wow- what a busy first week of term 6!

It was lovely to hear all of the exciting things that the children got up to during the half term and the weather definitely did not let us down!

This week, in maths, we started looking at money. We used counters to recognise different values and matched these with the coins that matched. The children identified coins and notes, saying their value and comparing amounts.

We made the most of the nice weather on Monday when we took some of our PE lesson outside. We started in the hall and practised rolling, bouncing and throwing larger balls to each other, before swapping them with a tennis ball and applying our skills on the playground to give us more space.

We have started a new topic in Science... Materials! The children explored different materials by naming them and finding a variety of objects made of them, inside and outside of the classroom. We also looked at the properties of each material by investigating what they looked and felt like. The children grouped different objects under each key word and then had a go in their books.

Finally, it was a pleasure to see how many grandparents and parents attended the grandparent event on Friday! Thank you to those who could attend and again to those who purchased the children's lovely artwork. It was a warm but lovely afternoon of the children creating their own 'Elmer' using different materials. They turned out amazing!

NOTE:

Mrs Watts will be taking Glow Worm class on Wednesday morning, with Miss McMillan returning for the afternoon.

Please continue to practise the children's sounds and reading at home to support with the work we are doing in school! It has been great to hear the children saying home much they have been doing already!
