Nurses and poetry for Leopard Class

We started a new history topic this week all about nurses, and this has included Florence Nightingale. First, the children had a go at ordering the pictures on the timeline and then they learned some background information about her. They looked at how she changed the conditions of hospitals and what she did to improve nursing. The children also enjoyed being nurses themselves and practiced their skills using bandages.

In English, the children have become poets. They learned that Haikus are poems that have 3 lines with the syllables 5, 7, 5 and had a go at writing some of their own. They did a fantastic job! In addition, they also looked at rhyming words. They mind-mapped lots of ideas and wrote poems with rhyming couplets in them. We are aiming to get a display up with all of their hard work on it.

In PE, they practised throwing and catching to each other. We combined with Meerkat class and enjoyed working with other children.

Please continue to support your child with their reading at home.  Here’s the link to this week’s RWI blog https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/RWI-Blog/
