Odd Socks and Pyjamas!

Thank you for supporting ‘Anti Bullying Week’ with the children wearing their odd socks into school on Monday. This is a great visual way to help the children understand and celebrate differences and what make us all unique!    Also, it was great to see all the children dressed in their pyjamas to support Children in Need today.  They may have been in their pjs but they were certainly full of beans and what a busy week we have had growing our brains!

We continued sharing ‘Where the poppies now grow’ in English.  We hot seated to think about what happened to the two characters, Ben and Ray, and how they felt.  The children were amazing at getting into character and shared thoughtful answers to the questions asked.  Using the toy soldiers the children then acted out the story thinking about the order of events and how the characters would be feeling at each point.  We then wrote diary entries as either Ben or Ray.

In maths, we have been partitioning 2-digit numbers.  We used the resources to first make the number and then practically partition it in different ways before recording in our books. We have also ordered numbers on number lines and used our understanding to identify missing numbers and to estimate when numbers would sit on a blank number line.

We started our new topic ‘How do animals survive’ in science.  We began by looking at what animals need to stay alive and what things are nice but not essential.  We then shared the story of ‘Monkey Puzzle’ by Julia Donaldson to help us think about if all babies look like their parents and life cycles.  We also shared the story of ‘Doctor Dog’ to identify how good hygiene helps us to stay healthy.  We met coughing Colin, who spread germ by not covering his mouth when coughing and sneezing and learnt about how good hand washing stops germs from spreading.

On the theme of staying healthy, in PE this week the children developed their ball and teamwork skills with target practice during outside PE and we were fortunate to have some sunshine!  During our indoor PE the children had to think about spotting their targets and moving swiftly to work together to beat their opponents.  We finished the lesson with a calm breathing activity which the children really enjoyed.

In music, the children designed musical instruments to be made from recycling junk modelling.  We will be making them this coming week so please ask your child about their instruments and send in any boxes, plastic bottles or tubs they would like to use.  Please ensure any items sent in are empty and clean.

Just a reminder, please ensure that your child has a waterproof coat in school with them every day as we do try to get outside for playtime unless it is very heavy rain.

Next week, I will be in class Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Mrs Millard will be teaching Meerkat Class on the Monday.  Our wonderful TAs, Miss Smith and Miss Lloyd will be in every day.

Enjoy the weekend.
