Santa's Little Helper arrived!
What a lovely week!
On Monday, we welcome our kindness elf- Santa's Little Helper. The children voted and came up with the name for our elf before sprinkling some magic on her. She and her elf friends have written us a letter each day in the hopes to bring and spread kindness around our school. In addition, Christmas joy was welcomed around the school with many decorations and songs.
We have also begun practising for our Christmas performance. We hope you are looking forward to seeing it! All costumes need to be in school on Monday as we are performing to the Junior School on Tuesday afternoon.
Our topic ‘Why does the weather change so much?’ has continued this week. We have looked at maps of the world to identify where the equator is and why the weather in countries close to it are so hot compared to cold countries near the Poles. We have also looked at maps of the UK to see the different weather patterns we have in different parts of the country and why.
In English, we read ‘The Emperor’s Egg’ by Martin Jenkins. We re-enacted the story taking on the role of the mummy and daddy penguin, balancing a ball on our feet, just like penguins do with their egg. Then, we sequenced the story before writing a set of instructions on how to look after a penguin egg.
We continued learning and exploring shape in Maths and this week the children identified vertices, edges and faces on 3D shapes. They also recognised repeated patters, created their own both practically and pictorially, and sorted shaped into group.
As part of our computing, we have been looking at editing photos. Some of the children have really excelled at this and I’m sure you will agree some of the pictures look amazing.
On Monday, due to the rainy afternoon, we did yoga in class and then this was followed by chair drumming for our music lesson. The children absolutely LOVED this and we had so much fun playing along to a Sea Shanty called The Wellerman.
On Friday afternoon, we were treated to a Jazz performance in the hall. The children enjoyed having a boogie to some of the Christmas songs they played and we loved hearing all of the instruments they had.
A shout out for helpers!
On Thursday 11th December we will be walking to All Saint’s Church for our Christmas Service. If anyone is available to walk to and from the church with us please let myself of one of the class team know. We will be leaving school at 1.30pm for a 2pm start. Thanks in advance!
