Saturday 10 June

Hello everyone.

It has been lovely hearing what the children were doing over the half term break and we have had a busy first week back. It was lovely to see so many grandparents (and parents) yesterday afternoon. The children’s art looked lovely in the frames.

Year 2s started their topic on the history of cars with a visit to the car park to investigate two old cars. We have pictures of them with Beetles class. We have been finding out how cars have stayed the same and how they have changed. We learned that Karl Benz invented the first car back in 1886 but crashed into a wall on its first outing. In music, Year 2s also started to learn four notes on the ocarina ready for a concert at the end of term. We had to think about making sure the holes were fully covered and had to try not to blow too hard. In Maths, Year 2s have been continuing the unit on statistics learning about block diagrams and pictograms.

Year 1s started their Science topic on materials by identifying different materials in a materials hunt, by looking at how materials can be changed to make different objects (paper from wood, plastic from oil and scarves from sheep’s wool). We then thought about the properties of different materials and how these made them suitable for the objects they have been made into. In Life Skills, we looked at what we need to stay alive and to stay healthy. In Music, we looked at body percussion, which proved to be surprisingly tricky to do quickly, and then watched the song Singing in the Rain, which the children loved. In Maths, Year 1s have been learning about money by investigating and sorting different coins and notes. We have also been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to make amounts.

In PE, we practised accurate throwing skills and then played a team game involving passing the ball before aiming at the goal. A lot of fun was had by all. We are looking forward to the colour run next Friday.

If any parents are able to help with the trips on 22 June, please could you let me know.

Next week, Mrs Harper will teach on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and Mrs Clifford on Tuesday.
