Scientific Meerkats!
Firstly, may I say a big thank you to the parents who have kindly volunteered to join us on our trip on to Lacock on Tuesday. We are very much looking forward to the trip and your support in very much appreciated. Secondly, thank you to all the grandparents and family members who came to the Art Exhibition last week. I have heard that it was a great event and I am sure the newly acquired masterpieces have been proudly displayed.
Myself and Miss Smith have been truly wowed this week by the children’s writing. They all got into character and wrote an impressive 3-day diary from the perspective of ‘John’ from Fire Cat. The level of detail alongside the writing fluency was fantastic to read. Well done to all the Marvellous Meerkats – gems on their jar!! We will be continuing with our Great Fire of London theme next week but with a new book.
It was all about time in maths this week and we moved onto learning quarter past and quarter to and even the 5-minute intervals to and past the hour. This is a life skill and one that needs lots of practice to secure so please support your child at home with this newly learnt skill. They have made a brilliant start and am sure they would love to show it off.
We continued with our topic of ‘Materials’ in Science and just like real scientists we did some experiments; both inside and outside the classroom. First, the children got fully involved in testing whether a material is waterproof or not by having water poured over them and yes as the pictures show, they felt I should have a go too! We then made predictions before testing a range of materials. We also looked at the same material but in different forms with different properties to test absorbency. The children worked so well in their groups, all showing great team works and respect. More stars and gems in the jar!
The children are just loving their music lessons this term. It is so great to see their freedom and expression when listening and performing the songs. We had to follow the actions and words to ‘Knicky Knacky Knocky Knoo’ this week. There was lots of coordination and memory skills required but the children got it and performed with lots of high energy.
In Computing we have explored programming and the children used the A.L.E.X programme to control the robot. They used their prior knowledge and learning from Scratch and Bee-Bots to successfully programme A.L.E.X. Their level of sequencing was fantastic and many pairs reached double digit levels!
As mentioned we will be going to Lacock on Tuesday. We will be leaving school prompt at 9.05am and returning by 3pm. The children need to wear their school jumper, comfy trousers and shoes. A small bag/backpack is will be required for them to carry their lunch in. A school packed lunch and bottle of water will be provided for every child.
Next week I will be in class Monday to Thursday and Mrs Rous will be teaching the Meerkats on Friday. Our wonderful TA, Miss Smith will be with the children every day.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Mrs Jeffery and Miss Smith.
