Sporting Stars and Wonderful Writers

What a fantastic time we had at sports day yesterday afternoon.  The sun shone, the rain disappeared and the children enjoyed lots of sporting activities where they achieved points for their colour teams. Extra points were awarded for courage, determination, perseverance, team spirit, for excellence and for learning to self regulate our big emotions! Panda Class you are to be congratulated on all of the above which helped to make it a really fun sports day that was enjoyed by everyone.  Well done we are very proud of you.

This week the children have continued to learn more about fractions and learning to look first at the bottom part of the fraction to know how many pieces it is to be shared into and then to look at the top digit to see how many of the parts we want.  We have worked hard  also on finding 3/4s 2/3s and 1/2's of objects or a quantity of things. We finally challenged our thinking by working out - 1/3 of ....... is 5. What is the missing number?

In PE we have enjoyed learning about batting and fielding and played some games where we took turns to be the bowler, batter or fielder in small groups. Maybe if you are near a park, field or at the beach you could practice your batting, bowling or fielding skills together.  We had 3 turns at batting and keeping our score before swapping over.

Finally during our English lesson we have continued to use the book Windows to help us create our thoughts and feelings about how the scene at the window is always changing.  We took on the role of different characters from the story to help us describe what we might be thinking or feeling trying to use lots of adjectives to add details to our work.  We particularly enjoyed taking on the role of Ginger the cat to help us created some imaginative ideas. 

Have a really lovely half term and we look forward to seeing you back on Monday 2nd June.  Please continue to read daily as this is one of the most important skills your children will learn to do and if you are taking your phonics screening test next term please continue to learn the set 2 and 3 sounds.
