Term 5 - Welcome back Brilliant Beetles!

The Brilliant Beetles have jumped straight back into their learning this week and what a busy ‘time’ we have had.

In Maths, we started our new topic of ‘time’.  First, the children looked at the numbers of the clock face and the size of the hour and minute hand.  The children used number cards to make their own clocks before using the small clocks to make and tell the time to o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to.  Please do support your child at home by referring to the time and asking them to tell you the time at any opportune moment.

The children wrote riddles on Monday linked to out new geography topic.  They wrote about The Big 5 and then shared these riddles with the rest of the school during our assembly on Tuesday morning.

We enjoyed our library time on Wednesday afternoon and the children all chose a book to take home and share.  In class, we shared ‘Handa’s Surprise.’ by Eileen Browne this week.  Here’s the link so you can share it at home too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrANbAjnQgM Please continue to read with your child each day and further support to help your child with their reading can be found on the RWI blog. https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/News/Friday-21st-April-2023/ Some children have moved RWI groups this term, if you are not sure of your child’s RWI group please just ask one of the Beetles Class team or email me at class3@westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk

We also started our new Geography topic this week looking at the country of Kenya.  The children have used their previous learning about continents to make some fantastic links to this new learning.  We used the atlases to find Kenya on the map, before looking at Kenya on google earth.  We identified physical and human features and the children then drew their own national parks.

We combined our PE and Life Skills lesson this week when we looked at The Learning Line.  The children set themselves a sporting challenge and then practiced with their partner to achieve it.  They encouraged each other when it became tricky and persevered to achieve their goal.  Well done Beetle Class!

In music we learnt the rap ‘Hey, my name is Joe’ and performed it all together as a class.  The children kept the rhythm by tapping their laps and moving their arms and legs. What a musical talented bunch they are!

Just a couple of reminders, please make sure your child’s book and reading journal is in school every day.  Also, all children still need a coat in school as it is still a bit chilly. Tuesday is our PE day, please ensure your child wears their PE kit to school every Tuesday in order to fully participate.

Mrs Jeffery will be in class; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday with Mrs Rockey taking Beetle Class on Thursday.

Wishing you all a happy weekend!

Mrs Jeffery, Mrs Rockey, Miss Smith and Mrs Ball.
