The Great Fire of London
What a warm week! The children have done amazingly in the heat and some of them even had a little foot spa yesterday to help them cool down!
The children have been very busy showing off their learning. They answered our topic question- 'What was the Great Fire of London and why did it bring about a change in how towns/cities were built?'. They drew pictures or wrote about what they now in their books before I asked them to 'show me'. The children we SO creative, they made wooden houses, houses with overhanging eaves, a rowing boat to get away from the fire, St Paul's Cathedral and they drew what London was like during and after the fire. I was so impressed with everything they made!
In maths, the children have been describing movements and turns in our position and direction unit. We have been practising our left and right, clockwise and anticlockwise before progressing onto giving and following directions.
We have extended our range of descriptive vocabulary in English this week, thinking about the characters and the settings in our story ‘Building Boy’ by Ross Montgomery. The children have really embraced the challenge with the use of similes and links to prior learning.
Next week we will be going on our rescheduled trip to Lacock. It still looks like it is going to be a warm day. Children will need to wear appropriate clothes, shorts and a t-shirt with a sun hat. They will need to have had sun cream applied before school and a small back pack will be needed to carry their lunch. It would be useful for them to bring an extra drinks bottle WITH WATER as the weather is going to be so warm.
We hope you have a lovely summery weekend!
