Time, diaries and materials

In our science lessons, we have continued to look at materials. We have been scientists by predicting and testing different materials to see what properties they have, including whether they are waterproof or absorbent. The children looked at which materials were most suitable to make things like a tower, bridge, parachute.

Next Wednesday, we will be going on our school trip to Lacock, looking at the style and materials of houses. These are similar to those that were in the London at the time of the great fire. The children will need to have their school jumper, comfy trousers and shoes. A small bag is handy for them to carry their lunch in. We will be leaving just after the register at 9.05 and returning in time for the end of school. It is going to be a wonderful trip.

In maths, the children have continued to tell the time past and to the hour. This can be a tricky concept for the children to grasp, please do practise this newly learnt skill at home.

Myself and Mr R have been truly impressed this week by the children’s writing.  They all got into character and wrote an impressive 3-day diary from the perspective of ‘John’ from Fire Cat.  The level of detail alongside the writing fluency was fantastic to read. We will be continuing with our Great Fire of London theme next week but with a new book.

In PE, the children practised their pirate dancing skills and started their outdoor wall and net ball games.
