Wednesday 19th October

Wow what a term! I can’t believe we are finishing for half term already. The children have had an amazing first half term in school. We are very proud of all they have achieved this half term and hope that they enjoy the half term break.

This week we finished our self portraits that we had been working on over the past couple of weeks. The children enjoyed using paints and pastels to create their art work. I think there are definitely some budding artists in Dragonfly class…take a look at our pictures and see what you think.

Dragonflies Art 19th Oct

In our maths sessions this week we started to look at the Number four and the children have enjoyed exploring what is four and what isn’t four. The children found lots of examples of four in our classroom such as the table because it four legs and Fred frog because he has four legs. There were lots of interesting discussions on what could represent four. The children watched two episodes of Numberblocks to inspire their learning. The children loved the 'Stampolines; episode which showed how the Numberblocks could change shape. Following the episode, we played ‘guess the shape’ and then the children explored all the different shapes that four could make using the unifix cubes. We also used the cubes to investigate what numbers can add together to make four.

Dragonflies Maths 19th Oct

In our PE session this week the children loved applying their skill of standing on one leg in a game called popping pirates. The children enjoyed working in pairs and placing equipment on each other. They then had to stand on one leg and see if they could balance and keep the equipment from falling off them.

In our Read Write Inc sessions, we finished learning all the single sounds in set 1. We are so proud of how the children are developing their knowledge of these and their use of Fred Talk. We hope that the cards given on parents evening will support the children to recognise their sounds speedily which will support their reading development.
