Westbury Walk for Glow Worms

This week, we have been working hard in geography to recognise human and physical features. We went on our walk around Westbury on Wednesday afternoon, the children had a map and we followed the route to spot different places around the town. It was quite tricky to work out where we were but the children did a great job of drawing a symbol to show what places we arrived at. The children were very tired at the end of the walk so they were rewarded with a little play in the park, which was our last stop.

In maths, we began a new topic of fractions. We identified what a half is and found a half of shapes, objects and quantities. The children have worked really hard with this! On Friday, we introduced quarters, which we will be continuing next week.

In PE, on Monday, we reminded ourselves of how to maintain control of a ball since we have missed a couple of lessons due to the bank holidays. We practised moving the ball around our body before having a go at throwing the ball and catching it, independently and then with a partner.

NOTE:

  • Just a reminder, we have started handing out new books every Friday. Please have a look around at home for any reading books and ensure the children bring in their books and reading records everyday so we can read with the children.
Also, please continue to practise the sounds as often as you can to support with the work we are doing in school.
  • The RWI blog is really helpful for practising at home. Follow the link below and select your child’s group, there you should find the relevant documents for that group should you wish to continue phonics learning at home.
If you have any questions regarding RWI please ask or see the link to the Read Write Inc Blog: https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/RWI-Blog/
  • Mrs Watts will be teaching in Glow Worm class on Wednesday morning, with Miss McMillan returning in the afternoon.
