World Book Day and Art for Leopards!

What a busy and lovely week we have had! It was amazing to see all the children dressed up as a word or in character from their favourite book on World Book Day on Thursday. The all looked fantastic!

In English, we have continued reading ‘From a tiny seed to a mighty tree’ by Ruth Owens.  The children have written instructions for growing both sunflowers and beans.  The children really showed off their understanding of the features of instructions during a more independent write on Wednesday and Thursday.

We have continued our topic of measurement in maths.  This week the children were exploring capacity and identifying which container could hold the greatest and least amounts, before ordering containers by the amount they could hold.  The Year 2 children also looked at how temperature is measured and practiced reading scales.

The children made collages this week, inspired by Henri Rousseau’s painting ‘Surprise’. They used different medias, including wallpaper, their printed leaves and their animal pictures. They mixed primary colours to create secondary colours and printed leaves, sketched rainforest animals, coloured them using pastels before bringing the whole piece together with a collage leaf and floral background.  The children have done a fantastic job and they all worked so hard.

In PE, the children developed their 'circle' shapes by turning, spinning and moving in a circle, before applying it to balances and jumps on equipment. On Thursday, the children practised using the rackets to balance and control a ball.

Thank you to all who have already signed up for a parent evening appointment, if you have not yet done so please do (it will be displayed on a board outside the classroom). I am also able to offer appointments via telephone, if you are unable to make the consultation evening.
