Wriggly nativity
Christmas fun has continued in Wallaby class this week! It has been so lovely to see the children enjoy Santa’s workshop in the role play. We had some lovely discussions about how we all celebrate Christmas with our families as well as what toys we might receive compared to presents our grandparents might have received in the past.
In message centre this week the children received a message in an envelope from the Jolly Postman. They then had a go at writing their own message and giving it to a friend. They also enjoyed listening to the story Dear Santa and finding a wrapped up box which they had to try and figure out what could be inside. Children came up with their own symbols for what the gift might be and stuck it to the box on a post it note. In poetry basket, children have been learning a 4 line poem called Icicles along with actions. In maths we have been identifying and naming shapes with 4 sides which involved working with a partner to sort a range of 2D shapes. We then looked for shapes in our environment and realised that shapes are all around us! Children enjoyed using 2D shapes to create their own pictures such as rockets, people, trains and flowers and they also enjoyed drawing around shapes to come up with different pictures of their own. We ended the week looking at daytime and night time and sorting objects into whether we do it during the day or night for example eating breakfast, brushing teeth or watching television. There some great discussions going on and we realised we do quite alot of it during the day and at night time. The children then enjoyed drawing pictures of what they do at these times of the day.
Nativity practise has been in full swing this week which the children are doing really well with. They particularly love singing all the songs and can’t wait to share them with you next week.
